comment I cannot go to google.com and other websites due to invalid certificate; possible DNS issue?
Since the error messages you are receiving are telling you there's a problem with the website certificates, does it not seem obvious to look at the certificates to try and find out what the problem is? Certificates have nothing to do with DNS.

comment 'msg' command on Windows 7
Of course you would also get the message. Are you saying that when you switch users there is no message box? Are you running the command prompt as an administrator? Maybe the forum post here will help: neowin.net/forum/topic/880618-using-msgexe.

comment Chainload Windows boot manager from another?
@Mehrdad: this is a bewildering and contradictory specification. Each bootloader needs entries for each OS it boots and each chainloaded boot application (typically another bootloader). There will necessarily be N entries in each of N bootloaders if each can chainload the others.

comment 128 MByte vs. 128 GByte
The GiB, MiB, KiB notation is used widely in the software that comprises my Linux installations. Your "used nowhere" claim needs to be amended.

comment NTFS File shows as directory
" ... showing up in Windows as folders/directories ... " is rather vague. Have you tried using the Dir command in the Command Prompt? Windows Explorer is rather prone to inexact representation of actual disk contents, and if there are third-party shell extensions involved, almost anything goes.

comment Restore hard disk signature
Take the four bytes (pairs of hexadecimal digits) found at offset 0x38 in the registry binary data, as described in that article, and reverse the order of the bytes (i.e. last byte first, etc). Use the resulting string of 8 hexadecimal digits as the disk signature you restore using DISKPART at the command prompt.

comment Importing Bookmarks from a Text File (to any browser/website)
Using the existing Titles of webpages may not be a very good choice as the bookmark names, as they are frequently ridiculously long, and amount to advertising blurbs.

So how could CHKDSK even run if there was no identifiable file system on the disk?

This answer makes no sense. File data that has lost its associated metadata simply does not exist as a file. They are simply random data sectors, indistinguishable from any other random sectors on the disk. There is no such thing as correcting directory/file structure only, without affecting the "data" files. Directories are files also.

Well of course the BOM is gone, but the file is no longer encoded in UTF-8, either!

comment How to know the IP address of a website
Also note that a website can have more than one IP address: yet another reason to regard "the IP address of a website" as a meaningless phrase.
