comment Possible to find an explanation of Windows updates in “digest” format?
I do think that this answers the question here very well, provided that it also works when getting updates directly from Microsoft. Do you want to link directly to your answer, or perhaps better add a brief description of the tool?

comment What is it that makes Windows require constant rebooting while Linux does not?
I think this is slightly oversimplified. On Windows, there's FILE_SHARE_DELETE which "Enables subsequent open operations on a file or device to request delete access.", essentially allowing to remove or rename files that are opened. I'm sure it's possible to forbid the deletion or renaming of an opened file in Linux. It's just not the default in both cases.

@Coldblackice: I'd love to have that, too :-) Ping me here or on GitHub if there's any news.

OP asked: "without having to manually google each one by one". Your answer substitutes this by "still have to manually click a link for each update, one by one". This is just slightly better than manually searching for the updates -- would you mind adding a more visible disclaimer to your answer?

@FrankThomas: This script could be a starting point. Haven't looked at it in detail, though.

Unfortunately, this doesn't answer the OP's question. The point was, as I understand, to avoid having to click the "More information" link in the first place.

You might want to use /NoRestart in a non-interactive setting (when calling from a script).

Works as advertised with PortableApps 12.0.5. Can be installed in the user's home directory (e.g., on a server).
