comment Does mixing memory with and without heat shields work?
And Heat Spreaders are really joyful when they pop loose causing the chips to not be able to shed heat through normal airflow. That wonderful eye candy is now the reason your computer is crashing. Pull the memory boards and inspect the heat spreaders every so often, if you see a gap where they're trying to separate from the chips, throw out the board unless you can finish out the delamination without destroying the chips and remove them to extend its life.

comment How to block users from downloading files
So, you block a few sites, then they proxy, now you have to figure out how to block proxies, the list goes on. A capable router might have bandwidth throttling or network access reporting per IP/MAC. Find the offender and have them pay for the downloads, time for kids to start earning their access so they're ready for the real world.

comment How can an optical drive function when mounted vertically?
In the last picture, the little tabs and the cd tilting against the tray has always worked quite well. All but the earliest and the really cheap CD/DVD drives have them.

comment UAC Disabled - “Run as administrator” still required on some programs?
Yep, gets even more so on Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8.1... You will run as administrator or fail, and you will need to start the program as administrator, not hope for some silly prompt or auto-approve.

comment Will I experience degraded performance on a Ethernet connection through a splitter if I'm the only user on the line?
Just forestalling the inevitable "I was getting 1.9Gbit on my WiFi and after all that work I only got 100Mbit". Yes, except on DVD downloads from CDN services on a 100/7 cable internet connection, it's hard to saturate a 100MBit Ethernet connection. Used to say that 10Mbit was all you needed if you were just using the internet, not so much anymore.

The 100mbps Ethernet specification only uses 4 of the 8 wires, you will lose the ability to run at Gigabit speeds.

comment Cannot Create User Account Named 'Con' Under Windows 7
Past experience just shows that using reserved words can have bad consequences. You will find out over time where the issues lie. Either take the advice or not as you choose.
