comment Why do I get “Only a single instance of this application can run” ?
Download the Adobe Flash removal tool, completely remove all Flash versions, reboot computer and try to reload the Adobe Flash Exploit Kit (aka FlashPlayer).

comment How to get a computer's internet (IP address) location using command line?
Google maps is accurate unless a demolition company uses it for directions after a tornado passes through, as happened recently. With Google Maps, trust, but verify very heavily before doing anything that has financial consequences.

geoip is notoriously inaccurate... I can be either in Idaho, Minnesota or Oregon depending on the DHCP netblock of the day.

comment Why does Linux allow users to remove the root directory?
Heh, the rm -rf promotion spamming hoax perpetrated on StackExchange has sure gained a lot of notoriety on the net. Why do most OS's allow users to recursively delete their file systems from the root... Because, somewhere along the line, mass deletions are necessary and if you're running the right flavor of Linux, you actually have protection against it, unlike other OS's.

comment Felt spied on at work and after two visits from security they are reimaging
You got hacked, they did what you expected and fixed it. Given the narrative, you're being paranoid about the wrong people. At this point, you are a liability to the security of your school district's computers. Your security practices need to come up to par if you want to continue the relationship.

Find somebody you don't like and plug it in their computer.

comment Should you switch your Inkjet printer off or leave it on standby for ink cartridges to not dry?
Out of curiosity, I've disassembled several printers before discarding. The servicing cycle uses a shocking amount of ink over the printer's lifetime. The manufacturer didn't make much difference.

comment Should you switch your Inkjet printer off or leave it on standby for ink cartridges to not dry?
No matter how you use them, inkjet printers are a waste of ink. Every power cycle and automatic head cleaning wastes ink. If you don't use them often enough, integrated nozzle cartridges need early replacement, wasting ink and separate head systems require replacing the whole printer, wasting ink. Leaving the unit in standby only wastes ink if the system goes through a power cycle, though any heat created by parasitic power usage will keep the unit warm and probably help dry ink in the nozzles. With inkjet printers, you just can't win. Learned over the years using them for print proofing.

comment Do malicious web sites ever exploit vulnerabilities in Linux clients?
The MD5/SHA1 fingerprints can mean nothing whatsoever if they come from the same website as the download, as the Linux Mint website hack shows.

comment sendmail relay refusing to use @outlook.com forward
And in this case, Microsoft is allowing a sidestepping of the authentication through allowed exceptions, just don't relay any spam accidentally (via hacks or other infection), or other networks will blacklist the originating IP and server.

comment sendmail relay refusing to use @outlook.com forward
Your MX server must authenticate and send secured to the server it connects up to. And if you don't have that, you are locked out of sending. You need SPF records for your MX and it must have a trusted connection to another SMTP server, otherwise you are locked out as a spam source. Open relay, which is what you are trying to do, is no longer acceptable.

Have you set it up to authenticate with name, password and use secure transport (port 465/587)? All modern email servers deny unauthenticated, unsecured smtp relaying.

comment Windows 10 detecting the wrong time zone
On CenturyLink (Qwest/US West) I can be assigned from DHCP IP pools that put me alternately in Oregon, Idaho, Minnesota, Pennsylvania. Direct Detection means little when it's using IP address on an internet service who has combined all its regional netblocks to make up for increased demand on a reduced availability of IPV4 addresses. And this is from a static location.
