Been on the Internet since before there was an Internet. Remember UUCP, news feeds, and Gopher?

comment Where does virtualbox store installed applications?
if you use dynamic allocation, will be much smaller than the total size allocated in the setup until you actually fill the virtual drive with content.

comment Permanently disable num lock in windows?
Numlock state also is affected a BIOS setting in this case. Boot with Numlock active will be one of the BIOS settings. For me, it's been the opposite, the systems I purchase must be blessed by some unholy demon from hell to actually operate properly and remember user state. Sure freaks out the staff when it deactivates in our company, hence the key removal.

comment Server has Crashed, How to Recover My Data from Raid-1 Configured HDDs?
Wow, that's one of those nightmare producing type things. Glad it resolved!! Local business here had a close lighting strike. Can overcome all precautions. Offline backups are sometimes the only cure.

RAID is not a backup method... It's truly a horror when this happens. Why didn't the UPS kick in and put it into autoshutdown?

comment My wireless router is too slow for my internet connection, what to do?
Your attached wireless devices will be the ones putting the cap on speed if the don't do beyond G speeds, add a little interference and the encryption overhead and 25-30 is about right.

comment Dropped an EHD and corrupted it, now what?
@Alex - it means that there was circuit damage, a connector came loose, or the heads got knocked far enough out of alignment that nothing makes sense to the head position control functions. At this point, you don't have to ask our permission, you can try anything you've heard will even marginally work, the drive is already defunct and probably can't really be damaged any further. Sometimes recovery is a Sisyphean task, no matter how much you roll the boulder, you get no results. You're in that territory.

@DragonLord - And if you consult the chart, it's way too easy to exceed the 350G limit. 2 inches onto a Formica counter top will do it.

comment -48VDC power required: How to make it work with 110VAC input
You will need to have a power supply that provides amperage equal to or greater than what the device spec calls for. The manual does not specify, and 48V being POE (Power over Ethernet) standard depending on what spec you follow, it could be the following, 15.4W/350mA, 25.5W/550mA, 51W/1A. So, given that it expects to be powered from a (pair of?) 12V wall wart(s) at 5A for 60W, you'll probably need a 48V 1A power supply. I'd verify with NetOptics on that.

g-forces from dropping hard drives a foot or more onto a hard surface are enough to totally destroy them (actually a lot less than a foot for fatal damage, see drop table in linked image below). They may be able to handle 200G while unpowered, if it was running, a whole lot less. You'll have to read it while it's readable, get as much off as you can and then take it out to the front drive and finish it off with a hammer. Heh, all you have to be is single, a man and over 40 for child porn distribution charges to stick. Somebody hacks your system, uses it to distribute some pretty awful stuff and you are too tech ignorant to defend yourself when SWAT hits the door with the requisite warrant. Better have a really good lawyer on retainer.

comment Is it too late to get the last updates for XP?
If it works out anything like past versions of Windows, the update system works until access mechanisms (winhttp, BITS) get updated out of existence, root certificates expire or Microsoft quits supporting ancient web browser access on the update servers. The updates aren't suddenly taken down, access to them expires by slow attrition and lack of support. Final support ends up being the Microsoft Download Center until they eventually disappear from there as well. As pointed out, you just don't get new ones as the rtf of misery, jpeg of death and gaping port chasm get reinvented.
