comment What would happen if you connected two wireless NICs' antennas with one coaxial cable?
The transmitted signal would swamp the opposing unit's receiver causing either damage or so much distortion that nothing could be decoded. Already been there with access points too close together to test a bridged wireless link. They needed separation before the receivers would work.

comment Upgraded RAM on Samsung notebook computer boots into OS but hangs then
Just something I've seen with memory issues, partial boots and resultant MFT destruction on Windows OS. You've created a memory issue where the system is partially booted. While it's less likely with Windows 7 and above, the chance still exists for a memory write to a critical area to be interrupted by the memory fault. And it's pretty obvious that you're finding the manual is correct.

Manufacturer's manual lists for this system maximum memory at 8192 with 4096 per slot. Always check their specs before ordering memory. It's what they've programmed the memory controller to address per slot that matters. You've exceeded that spec with the usual predictable results. If you're lucky, the computer won't boot at all and will prevent hard drive corruption which will be your next issue if you keep trying to force it.

comment Beep in headphone when usb-mouse is plugged in or moved
This also can be a symptom of having a broken wire in the mouse cable. The disconnect/reconnect beep is caused as the mouse electronics drop offline and get redetected.

comment Implications of using 192.168.1.255 for second access point
Hmm, a router that doesn't check the Net Mask when you set the device IP address and limit the assigned address to valid numbers. Might want to tell us the brand and model number so we can avoid it like the plague. Unless you're using some oddball CIDR Mask on the internal addressing.

Yep, they were little metal rings that would be magnetized/demagnetized. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic-core_memory (In reply to a comment about old vacuum tube computers that has been deleted)

RAM is fast memory storage, disk access is slow, non-volatile memory storage and the CPU cache is there for other reasons.

comment Upgrading from Windows CE 6.0 to Windows 7?
First you'd need to know if device drivers exist for the "Wireless Book" device package. The usual answer is "You don't" as these items usually weren't even as powerful as the current Android tablets out there and like Android tablets don't provide an OS hardware/BIOS environment in which full a full Windows OS install will run.

Virtual Machine = Virtual Hardware. Host graphics card doesn't matter, virtual graphics card does.

comment My laptop and my phone top out at 40 Mbps on my home WiFi
Sounds like phone and laptop can only do 802.11g which is 50Mbps. With encryption overhead and all things considered, you're doing about right.
