With a Computer Engineering degree under my belt, I'm looking to change the world.

I have teamed up with a friend of mine with the intention of developing a web-app together, and generally share our interest in programming.

I am looking forward to developing with him, and if a job does ever land in my lap contributing to that too.

comment Can I automatically adjust screen resolution when remote-accessing Win7 PC?
As a technician who's used a large number of remote control apps, RDP is by far a very non-performant. With chrome remote desktop, I can control games at more-than playable speeds - and it can even handle 1080p video playback. As long as a directx compatible game is running in a window, chrome remote is able to capture it just fine. I use a headless alienware small-formfactor to play games from my laptop. Sometimes I forget that I'm in a remote session. Getting this type of performance in RDP requires running remoteFX on a server, and having compatible hardware.

comment What does kill -3 mean?
@TomWijsman, man kill doesn't list the signals and man signals doesn't show anything at all. This is actually the first useful thin that comes up with you search google for "kill -3". :) It is really easy to over look the 'kill -l' option, especially if you didn't know much about signals ahead of time.

comment Is it good practice to create directories in the root of your C: drive?
Really, you should redirect your entire user folder to the data drive. That way you can capture the stuff in ~/appdata along with your ~/music and ~/pictures. This guide: caspan.com/2011/04/… has an excelent process to get it up and running on a new machine. Its a bit trickier for pre-existing accounts, but possible. I've used this guide: starkeith.net/coredump/2009/05/18/… with the robocopy command from the other guide, to redirect everything.

comment Disable Java Plugin in Google Chrome?
I can't find it, but I know one was using a glitch in the print spooler to get around UAC, then TDSSv4/aluron started using it to inject it's rootkit. If you got the fake AV, its probably a variant of the TDSS virus that downloaded it in the background. YOU SHOULD DO A ROOTKIT SCAN RIGHT NOW! securelist.com/en/blog/337/… The TDSS viruses are insanely complex, they actually have code in them that innoculates the pc to other viruses and rootkits, and run completey encrypted in hidden sections on the hardrive. You really should do a post on it.

comment NotePad++ shortcut for selecting whole word
ctrl + [shift +] left|right work in many applications, it's a good idiom to use through-out your computer. Its awesome in addressbars that support it. Additionally, ctrl+del or ctrl+backspace do something similar.

So, it might have nothing to do with being single threaded?

comment OneNote 2010 page down in long printouts makes reading difficult
Ctrl-Down is very useful, it appears to automatically skip to the next paragraph, which makes keyboard navigation a breeze (especially with tagging hot-keys) Well worth the points!
