I'm a full time database programmer and occasional all-around coder. Started with dBase II in DOS, used Clipper, Paradox, Access 1.0 through 2007, and now .NET VB / SQL Server / Windows Forms / Developer Express Components. Yeah, I'm pretty old.

How is Access not a database? That's an indefensible comment!

comment Can I print an image and set it to scale-to-fit on a page?
No need to go through those multiple steps. The OP said the image is already open in Photoshop Elements. It's just three clicks to print the image properly scaled to fit any paper size he might use.

Why go through another program? Photoshop Elements does that exact same thing.

comment In MS Access 2008, how do I search for asterisks (*)
I hear you that it does not work for you - but that doesn't make me "wrong". You said "it might work for you and others". I'm saying as nicely as I can that it DOES work for me and I'm sure for most/many/all others. Here's the video on YouTube: youtu.be/a-NHMQcz-bo So the question is not "How do I..." (which I answered correctly!) but "Why doesn't this work for me?" Good luck finding the answer...

Hey, Muleskinner! YES, it DOES work - when you set the "Match" to "Any Part of Field" like I said specifically in my answer. Setting Match to "Whole Field" as you show in your screen grab will only find a record where there is an asterisk AND NOTHING ELSE in the field. Please accept my answer as correct since the real issue is the "Match" setting which I pointed out. Thanks!

comment Excel Spreadsheet for Barcode Scanning
This is a great answer! The "enter" or carriage return is either programmed in to the scanner or part of the printed bar code. In either case, changing that won't solve the users problem. Paperlantern's deep knowledge of Excel yields an elegant solution. +1!

"So even if I have linked tables and send in just the front end, it will work?" Absolutely. "What about when he updates tables too?" Then you have to stop using the data file (back end) while he modifies it, as you have been doing - but that should be much less common. If you're paying someone to create this data system and that person hasn't already split it into front end and back end, you are not getting a professional quality design.

comment Migrating Access Database to MSSQL backend
Thanks! Splitting the application into "front end" with forms, reports, etc. and "back end" with data only makes updating much easier. The data file stays on your server, the front end file on the client workstation. As long as the changes to the program don't involve the data table structures, only the front end is replaced. You don't need to send files to the programmer - they just update their copy of the program front end and send it to you. You can keep working continuously with the data file. When an update arrives you just copy it to the client machines with minimal disruption.

What's the difference between Visual Studio Express and Visual Studio? Oh, about $675.
