I have wired CAT5e cable from my router (downstairs) to a switch in the middle bedroom upstairs. There is then another CAT5e cable from the bedroom switch to a switch in the office in the next room.
Neither of these connections are working with the cable I have created. I have used this layout to add the RJ45 plugs to the end of each cable, using A
at one end and B
on the other end; I've used this configuration for both cables.
Below is the layout of the home network. The double-ended arrows indicate ethernet cables, where the red ones are the not-working cables.
Am I doing anything obviously wrong? I did previously attempt to add the RJ45 plugs with the A
layout on each end, which didn't work either.
EDIT: After reviewing numerous guides, I seem to have misunderstood the importance of actually crimping the cable. I asked this question to confirm my mistake, and so my cable crimper should arrive Wednesday. Thanks for all your answers and suggestions, they've been very helpful in determining my mistakes.
