I have two identical iMacs, both with 32 GB ram. Both have the same version of matlab installed running the same simulation.

One of the machines runs the simulation a lot faster than the other.

In activity monitor the slow machine shows ~2GB of memory usage while the fast machine shows ~8-12GB.

My initial thoughts were that something was limiting the ram available to matlab on the slow machine. However, I don't know how to check if a specific application or process has a limit imposed on it.

Can anyone help?

Are you sure you have the exact same versions of Matlab installed? To me, it looks like one is 32-bit version and the other is 64-bit version. – DrZoo Apr 12 '16 at 15:31
  • Is that memory usage by Matlab or total system usage? Is there anything else running on the iMacs, perhaps using CPU? – jackohug Apr 12 '16 at 15:34
  • Just double checked to make sure, but yes. They are both 64bit. – Nick Apr 12 '16 at 15:57
  • That is memory usage by just the Matlab process. – Nick Apr 12 '16 at 15:58
