I have a Dell Inspiron 5558 laptop that is about a year in a half old. About a week ago it began making a static noise when I would have it plugged in charging. I ignored the issue. Starting yesterday, when the laptop is plugged in it will not charge up at the battery. It says "plugged in, not charging". It maintains the battery level (only 5%) but will not increase it. Yesterday after fidgeting with both the battery and charger itself, it did begin to charge again, however after about an hour it went back to the plugged in not charging message. When I plug in my laptop, a white light comes on at the bottom of the keyboard to notify me that it is charging. When the plugged in not charging message appears, this light comes on for a split second and then goes away. Any help is appreciated. I called Dell and they can't really do much without charging me an arm and a leg because I no longer have a warranty on the laptop. Thank you in advanced!

  • Have you ruled out the problem is the outlet your using? – Ramhound Jan 26 '17 at 14:23
