I created a new folder with the same name as the old folder and unintentionally started the merge process. I didn't want to wait for the folders to finish merging because there were a LOT of subfolders and files, so I stopped the merge. For some reason however, the majority of the subfolders have disappeared. I have "show hidden files..." checked and I have "hide protected operating system files" unchecked and they are not showing up. Nothing is in the recycle bin. My hard drive also suddenly has a lot more "free space" then it did before. I don't know what happened, maybe the links to the folders were broken? I can't even search for the missing files and folders.

  • Based on your description the files were either moved to the new location ( assuming they were not on the same drive) or the files are gone. Your question lacks the specifics to determine which one. – Ramhound Aug 1 '17 at 0:07
  • Which specifics might that be? The files would be on the same drive if they were anywhere since the old and new folder were on the same drive before they were merged. – collins Aug 1 '17 at 17:39
