In Notepad++, I want to highlight my current selection using Style 1.

There is no built-in command to do this because highlighting using Style 1-5 always highlights all occurrences of selected text, not only what I selected.

But since we can control document content of underlying Scintilla editor via code in Python Script plugin, is there a simple Python command which will surround my selection by supposed Scintilla's <Start Style 1> and <End Style 1> markers?

N++/Scintilla experts, thank you for any hints how to implement this. If this is not possible via that Python plugin, I'll appreciate related references to Scintilla API and maybe I'll try C++ or C# for this (I mean writing a new simple plugin).
