If i activate bitlocker on my computer hard drives will my boxeebox or kodi still be able to access my files over my home network ?

  • Out of curiosity, is there some reason you believe they might not be available? – Anaksunaman May 2 '18 at 9:42
  • maybe i have misunderstood how the bitlocker works but if i activate it will not be possible to access my files except from my computer ? – alv May 2 '18 at 17:48
  • BitLocker (as far as I am aware) shouldn't prevent network access. Encrypted sectors in the BitLocker-protected drive are decrypted as they are requested from system read operations. So basically, as long as the MS OS is properly booted, the files should be available (transfer across a network typically requires active participation of the host i.e. the OS storing your media files). If you are trying to read files off a system that is multi-boot (i.e. you have a Linux OS with Kodi trying to read files off a BitLocker encrypted partition on the same PC), then you might run into trouble. – Anaksunaman May 2 '18 at 22:39
  • That said, while BitLocker is supposedly relatively effecient regarding overall system operations, I might think a bigger concern might be (potentially) whether BitLocker might slow down file read times enough to cause glitches in streaming (but that's just a guess). – Anaksunaman May 2 '18 at 22:47
  • You're welcome. Glad to help. – Anaksunaman May 3 '18 at 23:42
