With Media Player Classic (MPC-BE) I'm getting reds rendered differently after transcoding a video.

These crops show the first frame using. If you look closely the last picture is more orange-y

  1. ffmpeg to extract a frame from the original video

    • Using ffmpeg on the transcode is identical so I it's not explicity included.
  2. Using the snapshot function F5 in MPC-BE on the original

  3. Using the snapshot function F5 in MPC-BE on the transcode

ffmpeg-frame orig-mpc recode-mpc

I took an flv stream and converted it to mkv using:
    ffmpeg -i $i -c:v copy $i.mkv

Then I transcoded it using:
    ffmpeg -i orig.flv.mkv -crf 20 -b:v 0 orig.flv.mkv.colortest.mkv

I also tried -c:v libxvid to replace -crf 20 -b:v 0 and got the same results.

I pasted the information I got from the MediaInfo program below.

My video options in MPC-BE are

  • Video Renderer: Enhanced Video Renderer
  • Surface Format: 16 bit floating point
  • Output range: 0-255
