A bit of unnecessary background:

I have a simple Cisco router - an ISR 891. This is connected to the internet via a separate ISP router. I wish to route traffic out to the internet via a subscription to a 3rd party VPN provider, namely Nord VPN.

I've spent a significant amount of time trying to configure a L2TP/IPSec connection as this seemed like it should have been simplest and I'd found various guides, such as:
Configuring Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) over IPSec
Configuring a VPN Using Easy VPN and an IPSec Tunnel

Having failed here, I've moved on to try configuring for the more secure IKEv2, however, there is even less guidance online that, a) I can make sense of, b) relates to configuring as a client connecting to another service, rather than as a remote for clients to connect to.
Some of the most relevant info I've found so far, is:
IKEv2 Deployments
Site-to-Site IKEv2 Tunnel between ASA and Router Configuration Examples

Happy to provide examples of failed configs.

The Question:

I would like to connect my Cisco Router ISR891 to a 3rd Party VPN provider over IKEv2, using the settings and certificate that NordVPN provide here: Example NordVPN settings

Would anyone have some working config they would be willing to share?
Or, could anyone with experience in this area point me in the right direction?

Having worked on this little problem for quite a while now, I must admit defeat and ask for some assistance.

  • Did you contact NordVPN and asked them for configuration? Do they support Cisco IOS as Client? – Abu Zaid Jul 4 '18 at 10:44
