According to https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Google_Chromecast one needs to add the following iptables rules to enable Chromecast to connect to a dd-wrt network:
iptables -I FORWARD --destination 126.96.36.199 -j REJECT iptables -I FORWARD --destination 188.8.131.52 -j REJECT
I can confirm these rules actually work (I couldn't connect without them) and that the ip addresses correspond to Google's DNS servers. I have two questions:
- What do these rules do? Do they prevent Chromecast from contacting Google's DNS servers? If not, what do they do?
- Any idea why these rules might be necessary for Chromecast to connect to the Wifi network? What could be wrong without them?
