Installed Syslog-NG as root, because the syslog-NG and its dependency packages like Eventlog is supposed to be installed in custom folder /app/syslog-ng.

But, going further, we would like a non-root user to configure Syslog server(*.conf) and start & stop Syslog-NG

It would be fine to give sudo level rights to this new user(if required), to administer Syslog-NG

/app/syslog-ng/bin has all binaries.

On rhel 7 server, how to create such user? for security reasons root access is granted for only two weeks in our business....

  • You can always change the group ownership of the file to something other then root. – Ramhound Aug 21 '18 at 3:52
