I use a laptop (ASUS ROG G703GS-WS71 Desktop Replacement Gaming Laptop) and I have another monitor (ACER SA230, 23" monitor) connected to it through an HDMI cable. My laptop is fairly top of the line as far as gaming laptops go (16gb ram, i7-8750CPU @ 2.20GHz, NVIDIA GTX 1070, and a 64 bit windows operating system). When I don't completely turn off my laptop, for example, just close it when I am done using it, it goes into sleep mode. When I "wake it up" my laptop is on, however only the external monitor works. I've tried unplugging the HDMI cable and plugging it back in, I've tried to detect the monitor in the display settings, and none of these have worked. The only thing that works is restarting my laptop. It's not a big deal, just after paying a decent bit of money, I would rather it work like my previous one did and load both displays upon activation.

To recap: when I try to wake my laptop up, only the external display (connected by 1 HDMI cord) turns on and the screen attached to the laptop cannot be detected/never turns on. I would appreciate any help, I am fairly new to the whole computer scene, so if you have a solution, please try your best to keep it simple or use lots of step-by-step directions.

Thank you for your time and any feedback is very helpful!
