I installed the official OpenSSH release build from their github repo.

Generated a key.

when I try to ssh somewhere, that key is not found. It is on the file system.

Debug output:

debug3: authmethod_is_enabled publickey
debug1: Next authentication method: publickey
debug1: Trying private key: D:\\Users\\myuser/.ssh/id_rsa
debug3: no such identity: D:\\Users\\myuser/.ssh/id_rsa: No such file or directory

D:\\Users\\myuser\\.ssh\\id_rsa etc. do exist

  • What "official OpenSSH release"? Can you be more specific? – Martin Prikryl Dec 5 at 19:10
  • D:\\Users\\myuser/.ssh/id_rsa Windows generally accepts both "\" and "/" as a directory separator. The "/" characters are probably not the source of your problem. In fact your problem might be the "\" characters which are doubled for some reason. – Kenster Dec 6 at 2:39
