I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 and an VPN connection (openVPN) created by myself with User Certificate file, CA Certificate file, Private Key file (VPN with those files works fine on my friend pc - Mac OS, but not me).

After connect to VPN, there is no internet access. Then I follow this link and got internet access. But the problem is my public IP is not on VPN network (My VPN is located in Japan, my public IP after connect VPN still in my country - Viet Nam).

After connect to VPN, I've tried ifconfig and the result is I have one more interface (compared with before connect) like this:

tun0      Link encap:UNSPEC  HWaddr 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00
      inet addr:  P-t-P:  Mask:
      inet6 addr: fe80::f8a0:c93f:ddd6:52c/64 Scope:Link
      RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
      TX packets:37 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
      collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
      RX bytes:0 (0.0 B)  TX bytes:2067 (2.0 KB)

I fixed this by follow another link (I cannot remember the url or keyword) on the previous computer (same OS). All thing I remember is open a file (belong to Network), delete one line inside that file, and it works like a charm. I've lost that computer so I cannot retrieve that link.

Any one can help me with that? I'm so sorry for my English :(

  • with those files works fine on my friend pc : a user certificate is required for each user my public IP is not on VPN network : Not a problem: your vpn client will receive a ip address from vpn server I have one more interface : This is the network interface the vpn will use, do not remove. How is your vpn server configuration file? – TDK Jan 11 at 8:56
