I've tried various switches and syntaxes, but none of them worked:

qemu ... -hdb fat:C:\VirtualMachines
qemu ... -drive file.driver=vvfat,file.dir=C:\VirtualMachines,file.fat-type=32

output:

Directory does not fit in FAT32 (capacity 516.06 MB)

I know is possible to use samba shares as alternative, but i've found the Virtual FAT disk images easier to setup.
