Good morning,

I encountered an funny problem with my laptop. When I have my smartphone in my pocket and the laptop on shoe, then the laptop goes into sleep, and I can't do anything anymore. After I put my smartphone nearby, then it works all fine. This is a little bit annoying because I often forget my smartphone.

There is an log entry in the kernel log: "[ ] PM: suspend entry (s2idle)"

Is this a general problem? And do I need to put some "electromagnetic shielding" in it?

My hardware: Acer Aspire E5-573, and operating system: Linux Debian Rolling

Kind regards, Valaphee

  • Some laptops use magnets to tell the OS you have closed the lid on the laptop. – Moab Apr 4 '19 at 13:09
  • Hmm this can be reason, that's annoying. Can I disable that the computer goes to sleep when the lid is closed in Debian? – Valaphee Apr 4 '19 at 15:00
  • Not a linux guy but sure you can. Look for power options when the lid is closed, in Windows you can set it to do nothing. – Moab Apr 4 '19 at 20:20
