I have some Beamer presentations created in LaTeX that use the animate package and which I have played before in Adobe Reader on my Mac. However, these PDF's are no longer playing the animations consistently in Adobe Reader and I don't know why. Sometimes the animations will play, but usually they don't. This is true even of PDFs I download which are supposed to be examples of of using the animate package. Any of the examples on http://www.texample.net/tikz/examples/tag/animations/ for example.

Any ideas?

  • Your issue isn't that they play automatically, it's that they don't play at all. Right? – Robert Paulsen May 13 at 20:29
  • Correct. 90% of the time they do not play at all, but occasionally they will. – Chris Johnson May 13 at 21:47
  • I've opened a few of the examples. If I download the file and open it directly in Acrobat Reader, they play. If I used Acrobat from within Chrome, they do not play. Can you confirm you are always opening them outside the browser? – Robert Paulsen May 14 at 13:10
  • Yes, that's correct. I think the issue may have been how I was building the files. If I add -shell-escape as an option to pdflatex, the files will now usually (but not always, confusingly) play the animations. – Chris Johnson May 15 at 0:42
