I am trying to use the RPi 4 with gstreamer to take an RTSP MJPEG stream from an IP camera and port it to streameye so that the video stream can be placed in a webpage.

vlc, ffmpeg etc. can do this but at very high cpu cost, which is not good for long term usage on the RPi as it locks up. Via forums i was told to checkout gstreamer but despite how powerful gstreamer appears to be - i can't get it installed/working properly. Is gstreamer not supported on rasbian buster? Or is there a specific installation i should be following?

Even trying the simple code to output a test signal gives errors:

gst-launch-1.0 videotestsrc ! videoconvert ! autovideosink

This is the error that was received. Would appreciate any suggestions to move forward with this problem.

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo gst-launch-1.0 videotestsrc ! videoconvert ! autovideosink Setting pipeline to PAUSED ... Pipeline is PREROLLING ...
