I have been using Kali as my main system since the 2016.2 release and have always made an effort to resolve any issues that have already caused me but this time I need your help. In fact, I decided today to update the 2017.2 version that I was using to the most recent version (2020.2) and everything went well except that since I can't manage to install anything either on my system I always get the error

user @ user: ~ # apt install kali-desktop-xfce
Reading package lists ... Done
Building the dependency tree
Reading status information ... Done
E: Unable to find kali-desktop-xfce package

and when I try to reinstall an already existing package, I get the error

user @ user: ~ # apt reinstall blender
Reading package lists ... Done
Building the dependency tree
Reading status information ... Done
Reinstalling the blender is impossible, it cannot be downloaded.
0 updated, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 3 not updated.

Here is the only line present in my sources.list and it is with it that I always worked.

deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main non-free contrib

I do not understand how to solve this problem. Need help

  • Why did you install the 2017 version and not Kali 2020.1b? If you have old hardware, make an ISO with the LDXE environment, it's runs alot better on old netbooks, laptops etc.. – Tim_Stewart Apr 12 '20 at 15:26
