I am looking for a solution to a Rectangle Tool bug in Photoshop CS6 when using High DPI displays.

First of all, CS6 did not originally support High DPI monitors (although the CC version from a comparable time did). Thankfully, I found Dan Antonielli's Windows solutions for "App Scaling on High DPI Displays (FIX 2019)":

I tried the registry fix first but it didn't work well for me so I tried the Windows 10 native fix The Windows native technique works for some but apparently not for all situations. After applying the fix on my laptop the main Photoshop working file window was super tiny and stuck floating at the top left corner of the working area outside of the tab.

To fix this I changed the ”Override high DPI scaling behavior’ in the program Properties to "System" (without ”Enhanced” option) which seemed to make everything look correct however...

While the UI sizing seemed correct with this fix & most of the functions appear to work, sadly, there are a few which it appears to break, particularly the Shape Tool.

Shape/Rectangle Tool: When I try to create a Rectangle with the Shape tool Photoshop now gives an error message that says "Could not use the rectangle tool because of a program error".

Has anyone else encountered this and found a way to fix it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Why are you using a 7 year old version of Photoshop? Have you tried a newer version? It's now on v21. CS6 is v13 – DavidPostill Jun 29 at 20:37
