My ssh key isn't working as I get the message USER@SERVER: Permission denied (publickey). This is pretty strange as it worked before I reinstalled my system and still works on other systems. The ssh agent is started, the file permissions are assigned correctly and the ssh key is added to the system (ssh-add). Furthermore, connecting to another server with the same key works.

ll shows

total 12K
-rw------- 1 conrad conrad 2.6K Jul 18 2020 id_rsa
-rw-rw-r-- 1 conrad conrad 565 Jul 18 2020 id_rsa.pub
-rw------- 1 conrad conrad 787 Jan 26 19:52 known_hosts

This is the output of -vv

  • Please run ssh with the "-vv" flag to print debugging output, then edit your question to include the output. Which system was reinstalled? The local system that you're running ssh on, or the server that you're trying to connect to?

  • The local system was reinstalled, will post the vv in a bit.

  • well you could make doubly sure the right key is being used and make sure you specify the username too... Try ssh -i /path/to/key blah@ip Try that on all systems and you should get the same result.

  • Did exactly that for the output!

  • @creyD that's ridiculous you didn't even show the command
