I am shopping for a port replicator to connect to my laptop with USB-C connector. There seem to be two major versions of this USB-C port now:

  • USB-C 3.1/3.2 Gen 1, also called USB-C 3.0 (5Gbps)
  • USB-C 3.1/3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps).

But I am frustrated that no manufacturer seems to specify how fast this USB-C connection to the laptop is! I am looking at these two port replicators now:

  1. Orico 11 in 1
  2. Vention 9 in 1

I went through the specifications but I cannot find anything about the speed of the "uplink" USB-C connector. Only the USB-A female connectors (5Gbps), which is clear. Seems very important!

  1. Are the manufacturers really omitting this key information, or did I miss it?

  2. Are there any manufacturers which report this for their port replicators?

PS: Likewise, I have trouble figuring out what version of USB-C port does my laptop support!
