I have an iPhone, and recently, every time I plug it in to charge via USB on my desktop machine, Windows 10 starts using my phone as a networking tether.

  1. My Win 10 machine has internet access so I dont want to go through my phone.
  2. When it tethers, the route tables get screwed up and traffic that needs to go out over existing routes gets screwed up by the new network interface.

I cant seem to figure out how to disable automatic tethering in Win 10

  • On your phone, can you turn it off? Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering Aug 27, 2021 at 4:48
  • On your iPhone, Settings, Personal Hotspot: Turn that OFF and the computer will not connect to it.

  • Windows doesn't just "automatically" connect to wifi hotspots to include tethered ones. Let it connect. Pick your tethered connection in the wifi list from the system tray and select Properties. Then turn "Connect Automatically When In Range" off. Aug 27, 2021 at 19:03
  • Are you talking about USB tethering? Aug 27, 2021 at 19:09
  • Yes, USB tethering
