I have Ubuntu installed on VMware, but the screen doesn't go full screen until I log in (even though VMware is in full-screen mode). [Screenshot attached below]

After logging in, the screen fills correctly. Even if I return to the login page later due to inactivity or shutdown, it displays correctly. What could be causing this issue? Thanks!

I have the same setup here.

You need VMware Tools installed and working properly. It would appear (I am not certain) that VMware Tools have not loaded when you first start up.

You can manage VMware Tools as follows:

VMware Menu, VM, Install or Reinstall Tools.

Make sure Ubuntu is fully up to date. V22.04 fully updated works correctly as does V24.04.

You can also install tools using an admin command line.

sudo apt update

sudo apt install open-vm-tools-desktop
