Actually, the question was "useful" shortcuts, not "all" shortcuts. More than having them all, I guess the point of the question is to determine the main ones to know.

Given enough time, they will all be listed anyway, so why not list them all from the beginning? Concerning the usefulness: the example in the question [ctrl]-[s]: I will not argue that it's not useful, but it's also not specifically for word. Just about any program uses [ctrl]-[s] to save

They're all useful, if you need to use them.

Office 2007: Alt

This brings up tooltips so you can use keyboard shortcuts for anything in the ribbon. It's a truly wonderful thing.

  • Insert formula: Alt + =

  • Insert page number: Alt + Shift + P

  • Toggle field expansion: Alt + F9

CTRL +SHIFT+> Increase the font size
CTRL +SHIFT+< Decrease the font size

These are the ones I use most:

Ctrl+B = bold

Ctrl+I = italic

Ctrl+U = underline

Ctrl+= and Shift+Ctrl+= = superscript and subscript (can never which way around they are, so I just try both until I get the desired result).

Shift+Ctrl+8 = Show/hide formatting characters

Plus Undo and Save, which are probably the shortcuts I use most across all applications.

I've used Office 2007 for a while, but at work, I have to do with Word 2002. The thing I miss the most is the style possibility, and I discovered that there was already styles, even in a bit more primitive way.

Since I often type activity reports, with Week, then day, then different things, I found quite useful the CTRL+SHIFT+S, which puts your cursor to the "style" field, and where i have only to type "Title1", "Title2", etc., then to hit return, and I have my selected text in the wanted style.
