I am trying to log in remotely to SQL Server 2008 R2. After reading several posts I was able to log in remotely from a computer on the same network. But I still cannot remotely log in from outside the network. I have tried both setting up an ODBC connection as well as connecting via the Management Studio I have made several changes to the router and still cannot connect.
The operating system is Server 2008. Does the operating system know if a packet is coming from outside the network and can it reject it for that reason? For testing the firewall has been turned off.
Is it possible I have a bad router and need to replace it?
