I am trying to install gitlab on a VM under VirtualBox running CentOS 7

I am following the following instructions: https://about.gitlab.com/downloads (for CentOS)

I configured gitlab.rb to contain:

external_url "http://gitlab.localhost.com/"

and when i run sudo gitlab-ctl reconfigure I am getting the following errors:

  • This particular problem was solved by creating another use and running the command as that user. The user 'git' could not execute it himself. Jul 14, 2014 at 11:56

I had the same issue because I had changed the home path of my Git user.

cat /etc/passwd

If you changed it too, you can set it to the default directory /var/opt/gitlab.

In my case re-running the command helped.
