We both run our own servers and have servers on Amazon EC2 across the world. Your connection generally goes to the closest regional server available to your area.

  • If it is Amazons IP, why do I land on DuckDuckGo if I go to http://176.34.131.233 with my Browser?

  • Because DuckDuckGo.com is a domain that is running on an IP that is part of the block owned by Amazon.

  • Except the website isn't owned by amazon but likely uses amazon's services in some way
