I have a Dell desktop computer running Vista Home Premium, can I use the OEM Windows 7 Home Premium software to upgrade this computer?

  • did you try to upgrade it? what problems did you run into? – Sickest Sep 18 '14 at 22:26
  • I am trying to figure out if I can use it to upgrade before I purchase it. – Jessica Reed Sep 18 '14 at 22:31
  • No; The OEM license is tied to the original hardware that it came on. – Ramhound Sep 18 '14 at 23:33
  • If you are talking about purchasing an OEM version of Win 7 (I assume you have a source for a legit copy), you can install it on any computer it will run on (check that your system meets the hardware requirements). Make sure you understand the limitations relative to the retail version. Be aware that it may not include all of the drivers for your hardware that were bundled with Vista by Dell (it will be a replacement, not an upgrade). I recommend making an image backup of your hard disk first so you can revert back to a working system in an emergency if you run into any problems. – fixer1234 Sep 18 '14 at 23:56
