I have an INSPIRON 3847. It has VGA & HDMI outputs. I want to run 2 (or if possible 3) monitors. Had 2 monitors running with GX270 but had to buy new Video card & a splitter. Do i have to buy a new video card for this one also or just use a VGA splitter, or HDMI splitter? Was told by Dell Tech that i could run one monitor from VGA (how it's been since day 1) and another from HDMI but did not work (used HDMI to VGA cable). What's best and/or cheapest way/ways? Thanks.

  • What is the make and model of the new video card? – Andrew Morton Jan 4 '15 at 21:38
  • A splitter will give you the same signal on two monitors, not a different video output. – fixer1234 Jan 4 '15 at 23:37
  • The one it came with, Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 – Armando Jan 6 '15 at 3:41
  • Ahh... I thought you meant the GX270 was a video card. You should be able to run two monitors from it, as the Dell technician said. Does it work if you connect just one monitor using the HDMI-to-VGA adapter? In what way does it not work when you have two monitors connected? P.S. If you start your reply with @AndrewMorton then I will be notified. – Andrew Morton Jan 8 '15 at 18:41
