I just bought Genius HS-920BT BT headset. I've paired it to my PC on Windows 7. However, when I turned on the "Forward Voip calls to Handsfree" service, in order to use it as my Skype communications device, my wifi internet died.

I am also using a Razer bluetooth mouse with no effect to my Wifi.

When I attached the headset as "Listen to Music" service, my internet kept running, so did my mouse, but sound became choppy on the headset in cases where I move my mouse and there's an active Internet transfer.

So it seems that only two devices can use the radio adapter in the same time:

Wifi + Razer BT mouse + Headset as Voip service = Wifi dies
Wifi + Razer BT mouse + Headset as Music service = Headset choppy when all three devices transmit data

In past, I also owned LG BT speaker system. When the speaker system was paired with PC on "Listen to music" mode, and my BT mouse was moving, the sound on the speaker system would also become choppy.

Is this a driver issue? Is there a way to make all three BT devices (Wifi internet, BT mouse, BT sound system) work simultaneously?

My PC is HP Envy 3270nr with all the drivers updated (which means little being that HP only published one version of those, with that showing how much they appreciate their premium model owners).

The problem you are experiencing is due to interference caused by RF overlapping channels.

802.11 RF Channel Specification:

The IEEE 802.11 standard establishes several requirements for the RF transmission characteristics of an 802.11 radio. Included in these are the channelization scheme as well as the spectrum radiation of the signal (that is, how the RF energy spreads across the channel frequencies). The 2.4-GHz band is broken down into 11 channels for the FCC or North American domain and 13 channels for the European or ETSI domain. These channels have a center frequency separation of only 5 MHz and an overall channel bandwidth (or frequency occupation) of 22 MHz. This is true for 802.11b products running 1, 2, 5.5, or 11 Mbps as well as the newer 802.11g products running up to 54 Mbps. The differences lie in the modulation scheme (that is, the methods used to place data on the RF signal), but the channels are identical across all of these products. 2.4 GHz Channel Planning

There is also a good explanation in here that why it's better for you to use non-overlapping channels. so based on that, you need to use these non-overlapping channels (1-6-11). Bluetooth technology uses 79 channels.

so first connect all 3 devices at the same time to your Laptop then do the followings:

  1. For the internal Wifi receiver of your laptop:

you can't configure the receiver but you should configure the signals's source, your wireless router. this must work if the IP address of your wireless network adapter is something like 192.168.1.x. in order to do that open a web browser and type in 192.168.1.1. it will take you to your wireless router's settings. in the Wireless tab/section change your Wifi channel to 1 and see if the problem with all 3 devices is solved, if not change the channel to 6 and then try, if not change the channel to 11 and try again. if it's solved you don't need to do the below steps but if the problem still exists you need to proceed.

  1. For your Razer BT mouse

download and install the device's driver/software. once installed, go to its settings. if it allows you to manually set the working channel, set it to 6, but if not then leave it to "Auto channel hopping".

  1. For your BT headset

install the device's driver/software and do the same thing you did for your Razer BT mouse, if that option is not available, leave it.

and try not to put their receivers near each other. if your problem still exists even after doing all of them then the interference at your place is so high. other devices like cordless phones can also cause interference. i suggest you to use 5Ghz band for your Wifi internet and as your Laptop does not support that, you'll have to also buy a 5Ghz wireless network adapter in addition to 5Ghz wireless router.

    Well here are the options left for you: you can buy a more powerful external 2.4Ghz USB Wifi receiver for your laptop to keep your wifi connection strong (if that doesn't hurt the headset's sound), you can buy 5Ghz equipment and it will give your all three wireless devices worry free connection but more expensive or you can use Ethernet cable for your Laptop's internet but that more depends on you.

High-quality laptops come with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo modules that handle coexistence (sharing the 2.4GHz frequency band between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) well. Bluetooth can use features like Adaptive Frequency Hopping (AFH), and the combo radio modules can employ things like Time Division Duplexing (TDD; a fancy term for having the two devices take turns instead of both trying to transmit at once) to share the band effectively. I have no idea if your particular HP laptop has a good implementation or a bad one.

Some things to try:

  • If you have advanced driver options for your Bluetooth or Wi-Fi modules in your laptop, make sure that all the coexistence features are enabled.
  • If you're using an 802.11n Wi-Fi AP that supports 40MHz-wide channels in the 2.4GHz band, configure it to only use 20MHz-wide channels (this leaves more room in the band for Bluetooth, so AFH can work).
  • Use a tool like inSSIDer to see if there are other 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks around that could be interfering with you. The usual advice is to put your AP on the cleanest channel (out of channels 1, 6, and 11), but in your case, you might want to do the opposite. Put your Wi-Fi on the noisiest channel so that Bluetooth AFH is able to put Bluetooth on the cleaner channels. Wi-Fi gear typically uses much more powerful transmitters than Bluetooth devices, so your Wi-Fi can probably cut through the noise better than your Bluetooth can.
  • According to the HP website, your laptop (or at least the current revision of that model number) supports 5GHz 802.11a/n Wi-Fi. Have your laptop join your AP in the 5GHz band to leave the 2.4GHz band free for Bluetooth. You may need to upgrade to a 5GHz-capable AP if you don't already have one.
  • If you have options for how your headset connects, use lower-bandwidth options like the Headset Profile (HSP) or Handsfree Profile (HFP) with a lower-bandwidth audio codec. It looks like your headset supports A2DP, which is high-bandwidth stereo audio. Add in the mic channel going back from the headset to the laptop, and that's a lot of Bluetooth bandwidth it's using. So make sure you're not using wideband stereo audio when you're using your Bluetooth headset as a VoIP headset.

  • switching channels made the sound not be choppy on listen to music mode, but as soon as the voip mode (mic) kicks in, internet dies, immidiatelly. looks like I won't have any luck without 5ghz ap.
