a few days ago, my HP A1709N had to be restored back to HP defaults. When I tried to install SP1 on it, the system said the update failed, then, upon reboot, I got a Blue Screen of death, and can't load vista, or the HP recovery options from the D drive. I tried repairing the machine using a Vista install dvd I made, but the startup repair tool was not able to fix it. I then proceeded to use the Ultimate Boot CD v 5.1.1 to check my Samsung SP2504C drive. during the 'READ SURFACE SCAN' test, it said below that row 'error: LBA 24529743' how do I fix this? I don't have the restore DVDs anymore and can't make new ones. thanks!

  • I'd suggest using a Linux live boot (Ubuntu would be my choice) and backup everything from your HDD to an external drive. That way you are not going to lose anything. Then try a clean install of an operating system. If this fails, it could be that your HDD has reached the end of it's life – Just Lucky Really Jun 30 '15 at 1:55
  • error: LBA 24529743, do as suggested, replace the hard drive. I would try to clone the old drive to the new one and try a HP restore from the bios on the new drive. – Moab Jun 30 '15 at 17:40
