The OSX moniker for "Virtual Desktops". A user can have multiple desktops (icons, wallpaper, aliases/shortcuts, files, etc.), only one of which is usable at a time, and switch between them. Introduced in 10.5 "Leopard". In 10.7 "Lion", the Spaces functionality was rolled into Mission Control
