Definition
Performance, in the context of computer sciences, is the measurement of work done by a system during a fixed period of time.
A system is understood as anything that produces some kind of measurable output. It can be a single algorithm inside a program, an entire program, a computer processing several programs, or any computer-related action such as network operations, video output or paper printing speed.
Depending on the type of performance measurement, certain performance metrics may apply. For instance, Latency is a common metrics concerning network performance analysis, while Response Time may be used with algorithm or program performance analysis.
